The Arenal Volcano, the only volcano in Costa Rica that has been active since 1968, produces huge ash columns and explosions on a daily basis. You can witness the glowing red lava for yourself, take a canopy tour, or try horseback riding, whitewater rafting, and mountain biking around the Arenal Lagoon. Spelunking is also an option in the nearby Venado Caves. If you prefer a more relaxing trip, then the hot springs at the Tabacón Spa are supreme.
